My Lil Sweet Pea is a mommy owned and operated business. The seed for this business began in early 2009 while I was on maternity leave with my lil boy. Before our son was born, my hubby and I had discussed cloth diapering and decided that we would give it a try. Our son surprised us by coming five weeks early and we spent the first few weeks of new parenthood in the NICU. We didn’t have everything ready for his early arrival, so it wasn’t until he was six months old that we finally started cloth diapering him. For us, we saw how quickly our green bin would fill up with his dirty throwaway diapers and it was alarming! On top of that, we knew that these would then get transferred to some landfill somewhere to sit for hundreds of years. The money and trash saved clinched the deal for us and we were off to find a brand of cloth diaper to go with. We tried as assortment of brands and settled on one that we both liked, which was a pocket diaper. Seemed the easiest to us at the time. A lot of our friends discouraged us from cloth diapering, but we were determined. Through our experiences, we started to win them over with our tales of how simple it really was and some of them even started to cloth diaper their babies too. And so the journey toward building My Lil Sweet Pea began.

I started off with only one pocket diaper brand, but now have expanded to carrying multiple lines and different diaper options. We now have prefolds, all-in-twos, pocket/duos, and all-in-ones. As My Lil Sweet Pea has grown, so has our own family. We’ve since added another member to our family and our lil girl was born in late 2011. This time around, we were more experienced and had her in cloth from the get-go. I have to say that people often think that it’s a hassle to cloth diaper a newborn, but it’s actually the best time to do it as someone new to the process. Newborns are quite cooperative and it’s a great time to practice your technique before they get into the very wiggly stage. :)
